Happiness – made for us or by us?

Someone scientific once pointed out to me that happiness is caused by Seratonin; a chemical neurotranmitter in the body that enables humans to experience the feeling of happiness and regulates anxiety.  It’s really interesting that we, the human race, have pulled these things apart to a point where we can understand the make up down to a molecular model.

The question that remains.. why are we made up of all these bits and pieces like this?    A lot of different answers depending on who you ask.  Some even question if it is a valid question to ask.

As a believer that God is in control of everying and also believing that the Word of God is written, we are fearfully and wonderfully made.  He made us and knit our very being together.  Does this mean He controls the level of seratonin or do I have influence over these levels by my beliefs, thoughts and actions?  Perhaps both?

Free will or pre-destination?   It’s a core belief that drives up through our thoughts and into actions (or lack thereof!).

Do we each determine our own happiness (for example) or are we pre-destined before time began to have a level of seratonin on each second of every day we are alive on this spinning mass of water, rock, sand and mud?

Psalm 139:14 declares, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
